Awarding the winners of the competition
For the first time, International Day of Rural Women was celebrated on October 15, 2008. Officially proclaimed by General Assembly resolution 62/136 dated 18 December 2007, “the vital role of rural women, including indigenous women, and their contribution to accelerating agricultural and rural development, improving food security and the eradication of rural poverty ”.
This date is consonant with the systemic reforms being carried out in the republic in order to provide full support for women, increase their socio-political activity, and create decent working and living conditions.
October 15th, in connection with the International Day of Rural Women at the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers, was held an official ceremony of awarding the winners of the competition "Effective use of water for irrigating agricultural crops in household plots".
The Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, jointly with the national project for water resources management in Uzbekistan, in June this year announced a competition on the topic "Effective use of water for irrigation of agricultural crops in household plots." More than 100 women from different regions of the country took part in the competition, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
They sent their proposals to the jury of the competition, the work performed on saving water on the personal plot, using economical and innovative irrigation methods. The jury selected more than 30 winners and prize-winners in various nominations. At the event, the winners of the competition were presented with gifts.
