Discussion of the reports of the project applicants SUSADICA

On July 2, 2019, the Department of Economics of TIIAME conducted a research seminar to discuss the sixth monthly reports and scientific PhD proposals of the SUSADICA project´s doctoral students. The themes were new and relevant to agricultural development issues in Central Asia and brought many questions, comments and discussions to the participants. The doctoral students their topics and also asked questions to the audience for their feedback and advices.

Presentations of scientific presentations included interesting and challenging research questions such as: the level of farmers' patience, the creation and development of new clusters and cooperatives, groundwater management, the use of underground water by farmers and other consumers, the extent to which farmers are exposed to the risk of using new technologies and others. The discussions were conducted in English, Russian and Uzbek.

This project aims at the creation of a collaborative research environment for doctoral researchers that is based at Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME) in Uzbekistan and that is established and maintained jointly with Justus Liebig University Gießen, Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) in Halle (Saale), Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) and a network of international partners.

Research and education are structured along a matrix defined by the three dimensions of economic, social, and ecological sustainability and the five research areas (1) farm restructuring & labour relations, (2) agricultural innovation & technology, (3) agricultural policy, (4) environmental change & agriculture, (5) water governance.
