Today, September 23, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will address the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. It is expected that the head of state will put forward his initiatives on issues such as strengthening peace and stability in the region and globally, sustainable development, ensuring human rights and freedoms.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev's speech at the video conference will take place at 18:00 Tashkent time.
Before the point, the national movement “Rise” listed the initiatives put forward and implemented by the President in September 2017, at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
The Tashkent High-Level International Conference on Afghanistan "Peace Process, Security Cooperation and Regional Partnership" were organized (March 27, 2018).
The first consultative meetings of Central Asian leaders were held. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution “Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Central Asian region” (June 22, 2018).
The Multilateral Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea Region was established (November 27, 2018).
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on “Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance” (December 12, 2018).
A draft Convention on the Rights of the Child has been developed. It was discussed at the Second Samarkand Web Forum on Human Rights (August 12-13, 2020).
Aral Sea problem
In his previous speech at the UN, Shavkat Mirziyoyev once again drew the attention of the world community to one of the most acute environmental problems of today - the Aral Sea disaster.
The head of state stressed that overcoming the consequences of the drying up of the sea requires an active combination of international efforts.
On November 27, 2018, the Multilateral Trust Fund for Human Security was established for the Aral Sea region.
The Afghan problem
In a speech three years ago, the president said the only way to achieve peace in Afghanistan was through direct, unconditional dialogue between the central government and the main political forces in the country.
On March 27, 2018, the Tashkent International High-Level Conference on Afghanistan "Peace Process, Security Cooperation and Regional Partnership" was held.
Resolution on Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance
At the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of conveying to the world community the true human nature of Islam.
The head of state proposed at the session to adopt a special resolution of the UN General Assembly entitled "Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance." The main purpose of the document is to help ensure the right to education for all and to eradicate illiteracy and ignorance.
On December 12, 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted this resolution.
Solidarity in Central Asia
In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan said that "Uzbekistan today gives priority to the Central Asian region in its foreign policy."
On June 22, 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution “Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Central Asian region”.
International Convention on the Rights of the Child
Speaking at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of creating the necessary conditions for young people to show their potential, to prevent the spread of the "virus" of violence.
In this regard, in the current context of globalization and the rapid development of information and communication technologies, Uzbekistan proposes to develop a generalized international legal instrument for the formation and implementation of youth policy - the UN International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
