"History Irrigation and Land Reclamation in Spain"

Flosel Sabate Kurull, a well-known European scientist and professor at the University of Leida in Barcelona, Spain, who visited our institute on February 28, 2020 at the invitation of the Faculty of Irrigation and Drainage Mechanization, gave a lecture on “History of Irrigation and Land Reclamation in Spain”.

In his speech, Flosel Sabate told the students of our institute about the invasion of Spain by the Arabs and the state of development of irrigation and land reclamation. Significant changes took place in the fields of irrigation and land reclamation after the arrival of the Arabs in Spain. They built dams along the river with various complex engineering solutions, cisterns for storing water, and underground sewers. Some of them still exist today and are used in irrigation.

Students of the faculty "Organization and management of water resources", "Irrigation and Drainage" and "Mechanization of hydromelioration works" took an active part in the lecture and received answers to a number of questions on the topic of the lecture.

The head of the Department of Humanitarian sciences Sh.M.Uljaeva listened to the report and said that such complex systems exist in the history of Central Asia, underground canals were built to collect groundwater, there was constant water in the cisterns in the desert. provided that it retains its property.
