22 MARCH – WORLD WATER DAY: NEW INNOVATIVE APPROACHES IN THE EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF WATER RESOURCES

Tashkent, 14 March 2018 – Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers is hosting a photo exhibition on "Innovative methods of using the water resources for sustainable development" devoted to the World Water Day.

The organizers of this event are the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers and the United Nations Development Programme in the frame of the joint project "Technical capacity building" of the EU Programme "Sustainable Management of Water Resources in Rural Areas in Uzbekistan".

International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March. This day is devoted to draw public attention to the condition of water infrastructure and issues related to their restoration and protection; think about the role of water in the life of every human being on Earth; draw attention to the problems of shortage of drinking water, the need to preserve and rational use of water resources, take the necessary measures to address the problem of supplying the population with drinking water. The main theme of the World Water Day 2018 – Nature for Water.

The celebration of the World Water Day is preceded by a series of activities aimed at promoting the rational use of water and raising public awareness about the significance of water resources for the welfare of the country and society as a whole.  Great attention on these events that will be continued during March 14-16  are paid to the role of youth in promoting the rational and effective use of water, discussions among university students on the issues of water management and sustainable development of the country.    

The first day of events also includes discussions on "The role of innovation in the water sector in ensuring food security in Uzbekistan." On the second day, the university students will have the opportunity to participate in three different competitions. The winners of the competitions will be awarded with certificates and valuable gifts. Events of the last day of the World Water Day Celebration include an exhibition on "Innovative approaches and technologies in water conservation" and the official ceremony of the World Water Day Celebration on "Innovative approaches for the effective management of water resources” that will be attended by  the representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers, the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan,  German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Uzbekistan and the UNDP in Uzbekistan.
