First steps in the project with the Japanese SATREPS program and our scientists.
Today, prestigious universities and organizations in Japan and Uzbekistan, within the framework of the Research Partnership in Science and Technology for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program, discussed the organization of project activities and its program on the topic "Development of new technologies for monitoring and controlling the use of water resources to combat salinization and improving land productivity and food security in the Aral region”.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan organized the online meeting. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Tokyo Gairat Fozilov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet Ministers of the Republic Karakalpakstan Yusupbek Kazbekov, Deputy Minister of Innovative Development Azimjon Nazirov, Head of the International Department the Ministry of Agriculture Ibraim Khojaev, Head of the International Fund for Saving Aral Sea (IFAS) Vadim Sokolov, Head of International Innovation Center for Aral Sea Basin (IICAS) Murat Ganiev, Rector of TIIAME Uktam Pardaevich Umurzakov, chief specialist of UzGIP Gulchekhra Khasankhanova, director of Uzhydromet Bakhriddin Nishonov, specialist of the “Panayev Farm” Alisher Kurbanov, head of the Nukus fish farm of the Karakalpac branch - entrepreneurs Eliboeva Nazira, from the Japanese side employees of the JICA office in Uzbekistan Kazuko Takabatake and Farkhod Qurbonov, Professor of Kyoto University of Japan Kenji Tanaka, Timur Khuzhanazarov, Osamu Kazan, Professor of Tohoku University Y Oshiya Toge, Professor at Kitakyushu University Yasui Hidinari, Professor at Mie University Matsuo Naoko, Professor at Chiba University Higuchi Atsushi, Professor at Kobe Nagano University Uki, and Professor at Tottori University Christina Toderich.
The parties discussed in detail the issues of project implementation and its results. Timur Khudzhanazarov made a presentation on the goals and objectives of the project, methods and approaches used in their implementation. The project envisages direct investments in education and the creation of a modern center for observing climate change, meteorological monitoring, as well as the introduction of new Japanese technologies in agriculture in saline conditions in order to increase land productivity and improve the well-being of local communities of people in conditions of limited water access in the Aral Sea region. The meeting was interesting and eventful. Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Japan Gairat Fozilov thanked all the participants and concluded the meeting.
