Start to International Summer School

The International Center for the Study of Landscape Landscaping in Germany (ZALF), at the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME) , with the participation of young researchers, doctors  from Europe, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, India, Canada, Colombia, "Water-energy for irrigated agriculture" International summer school on "Assessment of Food Security Sustainability: Interdisciplinary Approaches in Central Asia" started on April 29 this year.

This event is funded by the German Folksvagen Foundation (Volswagen Foundation). Early on April 29, the institute entrance gates were opened to meet guests. The guests were welcomed by the institute's management and organizational working group. Initially, all international guests, participants from the International Summer School, attendees, doctoral candidates and professors were invited to attend the International Conference Hall.

The Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers spoke at the event and introduced the guests to the meeting and the Deputy Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Deputy Minister congratulated all the participants and opened the International Summer School. Afterwards, Prof. Katharina Helming, representative of the Landscape Research Center in Germany, presented the main trends in this productive activity and thanked the management of the institute and wished all participants success. The purpose of the International Summer School is to deliver knowledge and skills to assess the stability of water-energy-food security to doctoral students, teachers and young scientists and to strengthen their knowledge in this regard.

During summer school attendance:

- Increase productivity in climate change and water scarcity;

- Renewable energy production under soil conditions and water shortages;

- Transboundary water resources management for several sectors;

- Establishing a system of efficient use of land resources and economic rehabilitation;

- Lots of interesting lectures and practice sessions on energy-to-food interaction and synergy management.

Lessons are conducted by leading scientists in the field of water and energy resources management in Germany, Central Asia and TIIAME. During the training, participants are expected to receive practical and creative training, intensive discussions. Also, summer school curriculum provides for intensive training in irrigation and land reclamation facilities, as well as sightseeing tours and sports and cultural events in Tashkent. At the end of the training, all participants will receive a certificate of international qualification. International Summer School will last until May 5. Students, masters and doctoral students of the institute will also have an opportunity to get acquainted with international guests, exchange views and strengthen mutual contacts.
