On March 24, 1990, at the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR, Karimov elected as the President of the Uzbek SSR. August 31, 1991 Karimov proclaimed the historic event - the state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Today,1st course students of the faculty of Hydromelioration of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers visited the "Islam Karimov Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex".
