ONLINE COURSES ON NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND ECONOMICS
In the framework of a project on the establishment of interdisciplinary lab on “Agricultural innovations and resources”, the lecturers from Nazarbaev University (Kazakhstan) will provide online courses in English language to PhD students and lecturers of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers.
The course “Natural Resources Management and Economics” will cover the principles of natural resource and water economics by offering operational research tools and techniques through a set of applied case studies from Central Asia and other regions where similar challenges are faced on the management of natural assets and freshwater use in particular. The course themes include topics from a wide area of natural resources policy and management with focus on freshwater use by identifying the major challenges in terms of value chain perspectives, economic externalities, technical efficiency and economic effectiveness, centre-periphery relations, local communities and multi-stakeholder governance, decision aiding systems and tools.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The course comprises three autonomous but also complementary sections. The first section will offer an integrated perspective of the main components of natural resources. The second section will offer operational approached by focusing on Cost-Benefit analysis technique and customized applications. The third section will concentrate on the situation of water resources and policy and management in Central Asia (CA) with focus on Uzbekistan. In all the three sessions, there will be a teamwork approach among the instructor and the participants by encouraging peer-to-peer assessments though essays and assignments and continuous interactive dialogue for improving the teaching performance of TIIAME participants.
